Fireworks 2001

The primary reason for the purchase of my Minolta Dynax 404si and 505si cameras was to improve my outdoor photography. However, these are costly items to purchase and only use in the persuit of Wainwright bagging. As a result, I began to take an interest in other aspects of photography and to begin playing with all those other functions which cameras come packed with these days.

Bonfire night 2001 was therefore my first opportunity to try some firework photography. In the run up to my chosen event, I had read up on the basics and seeked advice from other members of various usenet groups. The other thing I made sure of was that I knew how to fully use all the functions of my equipment.

The evening of Sunday 4th November, I went along to the local firework display event with all my gear packed up in my Lowepro Mini Trekker. Both cameras loaded with different film, one already mounted on my tripod with a remote release cable attached. As people sat and watched the short show before the display, I found my spot and setup my gear. When the flood lights went out that was the start of the display.

The following photo's were all taken using Fuji Velvia which was different to what I was advised, and with exposure times varying between 20-30 seconds. My personal opinion of the photos is that they are O.K but I think I will try shorter exposures of 8-10 seconds next time. See what you think.......
